Record a repeatable description
Write the exercise, variation, equipment, sets, repetitions, and load. Specify whether a dumbbell weight means each hand or the pair, and keep the same convention next time. For example, record a seated press as two sets of eight repetitions with two six-kilogram dumbbells, rather than simply writing twelve kilograms. If you use a machine, note its identity and settings in a separate notebook when the app has no suitable field. Different machines are not automatically comparable.
Read volume as arithmetic, not a verdict
Two sets of eight repetitions with six kilograms in each hand give 192 kilogram-repetitions when both dumbbells are counted. That calculation describes recorded external load; it does not measure muscle growth, technique, or the difficulty of every exercise. Bodyweight movements and different ranges of motion complicate comparisons. Compare like with like across several sessions. A lower total after changing equipment or learning a slower movement is not, by itself, evidence that your fitness has declined.
Keep the context that changes decisions
Alongside the numbers, briefly note whether the session felt manageable and whether time pressure changed your choices. Keep these notes separately if necessary; do not assume the app offers a particular note field. Choose one question for the next review, such as whether the same exercise felt more controlled. Do not increase weight merely to rescue a chart or streak. If activity causes concerning symptoms, stop and seek appropriate medical advice rather than treating your log or AI response as a diagnosis.
Take it with you
- Use consistent exercise names and weight conventions.
- Compare similar sessions rather than unrelated volume totals.
- Treat records as context, not proof of health or muscle growth.
